Understanding When Devices Go "Offline"

By Vicky Munsell

Learn what "offline" devices are, and how to get them back online

After 30 days of MDM inactivity, a Kandji-enrolled device will be marked as "Offline". The device will remain offline until it can check in again or one of the following actions is taken.

Reactivate

To bring a device out of "Offline" status, it must be turned on with an active Internet connection. Once it completes a check-in with Kandji, the device will be removed from the "Offline" section. A Mac can complete a check-in with Kandji from the standard login or lock screen or from the Passport Login Window.  It cannot check in from the FileVault login screen after a Mac restarts.

Remove from Account

If Kandji should no longer look for this device, follow these steps to remove it from your account. Carefully review the ramifications of removing a device from Kandji before proceeding.

Reinstall

If a device was erased, Kandji must be re-installed manually or via MDM with Automated Device Enrollment to operate properly. Kandji will automatically link the old and new records using the UUID and serial number.

See the Devices section of our Knowledge Base for more detailed information about taking action on devices.
