Tags for Devices

Learn about Tags and how to use them

What are Tags?

Tags are a new way to group devices locally in Kandji and can be used with Assignment Rules on both Classic Blueprints and Assignment Maps. Tags differ from an Asset Tag, which can also be set for a device but only supports one value and is usually used specifically for inventory purposes.

Tagging a Device

To add one or more tags in Kandji, follow these steps.

1. Visit the device record you want to tag.
2. Click Edit device details.
3. Select Edit tags.
   
4. From the dialog that appears, you can select one or more existing tags or type to create your first one — any tags you create become available for any and all devices in your Kandji tenant.
   

Managing Tags

Using the Manage tags menu, you can manage tags for your tenant from the Devices page. From here, you can: 

• Add new tags without assigning them to any devices
• Rename tags
• Delete tags if they’re not used in scoping rules

To access the Manage tags menu:

1. Click on Devices in the navigation menu on the left-hand side.
2. Click the ellipses in the upper right corner of the Devices page.
3. Select Manage tags.
   
4. In the Manage tags modal, you can search for, add, edit, or delete tags.
5. To edit or delete tags, click the ellipses to the right of the tag and select Edit name or Delete tag.
   
6. Tags that are used in rules cannot be deleted. To see where tags are being used in rules, select the ⓘ next to the ellipses.
   

Adding or Removing Tags in Bulk

You can add or remove tags from devices in bulk using the Bulk Actions menu on the Devices Page. 

1. Select the radio buttons next to the devices for which you want to edit Tags.
2. Click the Bulk Actions menu.
3. Select Edit Tags.
   
4. In the modal that appears, choose the Tags you want to add and remove.
5. Click Save.
   

Activity Logging

Updates to Tags are logged in the Device Record Activity, as well as in Global Activity.

Tags support the following operators, which are case-sensitive:
